The 24th Annual Meeting of Japanese Society for the Temporomandibular Joint

Greeting by the Chairman of the Meeting

Kazuo Tanne, Chairman of the 24th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for the Temporomandibular Joint
Department of Orthodontics and Craniofacial Developmental Biology,
Hiroshima University Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences

I am herein informing you of the 24th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for the Temporomandibular Joint. This is the second time that the society’s meeting is being conducted in Hiroshima after an interval of 22 years since the 2nd meeting (Chairman Kazuaki Takada, 1989). Head Director Kenji Kakudo, other executives and the members of the society have worked hard to decide on the various events of this meeting, for which I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude.

This meeting will be simultaneously conducted with the 2nd Asian Academic Congress for the Temporomandibular Joint (Chairman: Prof. Nobuo Inoue). Under the theme of “A Paradigm Shift in TMD Diagnosis and Treatment,” we have incorporated various plans into the meeting. We will invite Prof. Kapila from the University of Michigan as a foreign lecturer. He will talk about the cutting-edge treatment and research of temporomandibular disorder (TMD) in the U.S. As an educational lecture, Prof. Mitsuo Ochi of the Hiroshima University Graduate School will speak on the latest topics regarding the application of regenerative medicine to joint treatment. We are planning a symposium featuring the treatment of TMD by general clinicians, the latest TMD treatment, and recent topics. Furthermore, we will conduct an evening seminar for freely exchanging opinions with local doctors regarding the topic of this meeting. We will also conduct a social gathering on the same day as the fireworks display at Hiroshima Port. This display will be conducted on the top floor of Rihga Royal Hotel, so I hope you will be able to enjoy the fireworks at the port at the same time.

In Hiroshima Prefecture, there are two world heritage sites: the Atomic Bomb Dome (Hiroshima City) and Miyajima (Hatsukaichi City). In July, it is a little humid but a good season for sightseeing. There is also the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park near the site. I hope you will find time to visit these scenic sites. Also, please get together with other participants and fully enjoy sake from the breweries of Saijo and seafood from the Seto Island Sea.

With wishes that this meeting will be successful with all of your support, I would like to end my greeting.

Nobuo Inoue, Chairman of the 2nd Asian Academic Congress for Temporomandibular Joint
Department of Gerodontology, Division of Oral Health Science, Hokkaido University Graduate School of Dental medicine

It is great pleasure that the 2nd Asian Academic Congress and the 24th annual meeting of Japanese society for Temporomandibular Joint will be held in Hiroshima, Japan July 23 and 24, 2011 and we will have outstanding speakers who have excellent achievements in Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) research from Asia/Oceania and USA.

The causes of the temporomandibular disorder are diverse and the occurrence and management in each country are different. So, the theme of “Paradigm shift of TMD diagnosis and treatment” will be reflected in the many collaborative sessions that will bring together experts from the different region such as Japan, Korea, China, Turkey, Philippine, Myanmar, Malaysia, Thailand, Bangladesh, Australia and beyond to discuss common areas of interest, introducing new concepts and research findings as well as share knowledge in areas of difficulty or even failures.

It is the same time an opportunity to strengthen understanding and interdisciplinary cooperation amongst member countries.

We are very pleased to organize and host this event and are determined to provide you with an educational and social occasion that will be remembered for many years to come. We are confident of a memorable congress in all aspects, and we look forward to your concurrence.
