The 44th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Biomaterials will be held at Tower Hall Funabori, Tokyo, on November 21st (Mon.) and November 22nd (Tue.), 2022. As the chairperson of the meeting, on behalf of the executive committee members of the 44th Annual meeting of the JSB, we welcome all the members to gather at Funabori and to present and discuss their research results in the meeting.

The Japanese Society for Biomaterials aims to develop and improve science and technology related to materials used in living organisms and their applications, as an interdisciplinary field of study that integrates different fields such as medicine, dentistry and pharmaceutics, and science and engineering, realizing the development of medical care and improvement of quality of life (QOL) of patients through practical use of biomaterials.

The theme of the 44th annual meeting is "Biomaterials and Diversity”. Wide variety of materials are created, assembled, and are clarified the properties to use as biomaterials, in medical, dental, pharmaceutical (and/or veterinary), and other fields for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention purposes. Thus, biomaterials are involved in a wide range of fields and the field of biomaterials is truly an interdisciplinary fusion area encompassing "diversity".

In the meeting, cutting-edge researches on biomaterials will be presented those form the basis of medical devices and equipment. The executive committee members have been planning stimulating programs for the participants, covering a wide range of topics including biomaterials for new treatments and diagnostics, drug delivery systems, regenerative medicine, and medical devices.

Although the impact of the COVID19 infection has been continuing since the beginning of 2020, we are preparing for the meeting to be held onsite. With the cooperation of the members of organizing committee and the executive committee, we are working to make the meeting safe and meaningful for the many participants who will gather at the meeting.
