Welcome Address

Kazuaki Fukushima
President
The 4th Annual Meeting of the Federation of Asian Dental Anesthesiology Societies

I am delighted to welcome all of you to the 4th Annual Meeting of the Federation of Asian Dental Anesthesiology Societies.

During the 11th International Dental Congress on Modern Pain Control held at Yokohama in 2006, the President, Dr. Kaneko, proposed the holding of a conference among China, Korea, and Japan because the president of the Chinese Society of Stomatological Anesthesia, Dr. Yesen Zhu, a Professor at Jiaotong University, was keen to deepen academic cooperation. On October 10, 2006, through the efforts of Dr. Kaneko, Dr. Yesen Zhu, Dr. Kwang Won Yum, a Professor at Seoul National University, and Dr. Hyun Jeong Kim, an Associate Professor at Seoul National University, who were members of The Korean Dental Society of Anesthesiology, Dr. Fukushima who was the president of the JDSA, and Dr. Kaneko gathered to discuss academic cooperation among the three Asian societies of dental anesthesiology.

As a result, we reached a broad agreement to promote academic exchanges among the three societies of dental anesthesiology and to establish an organization to hold a joint scientific meeting. After obtaining opinions from each Society, a preparatory conference to establish the FADAS was held in Sapporo on January 27. At this conference, the establishment of FADAS was approved and Dr. Kaneko was selected as the first president. In addition, the first scientific meeting and executive director meeting were planned to be held combined with the 35th annual meeting of the JDSA.

The 2nd Annual Meeting of FADAS was held in Shanghai, China by the President, Dr. Zhu, in 2008. The 3rd Meeting was postponed in 2009 because of swine flu, and it was next held in Seoul by the President, Dr. Yeo Gab Kim, in 2010.

I believe that the FADAS will contribute to the development of dental anesthesiology in China, Korea, Japan and every nation in the world.

Another important purpose of the Meeting is to offer ample opportunities to meet with old friends and get acquainted with new ones. I wish you all a most pleasant stay in Kobe city and hope that the Meeting will be beneficial and useful.
